Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body: Featuring 1,247 pictures from the classic 1918 publication, as well as a subject index with 13,000 entries.
HCUPnet: HCUPnet is a free, on-line query system based on data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). It provides access to health statistics and information on hospital inpatient and emergency department utilization.
Merck Manual: The Merck Manual is available free, browseable by table of contents. Also freely available: the Merck Manual of Health & Aging.
National Institute of Nursing Research: Supporting research in nursing in clinical and community settings, NINR provides information on its own funding initiatives, including diversity programs and resources, links to nursing organizations for various specialties, and publications from national conferences and meetings.
World Health Organization: WHO is an excellent source of global health information, including statistics and country-by-country health overviews. Search WHOLIS to find full-text health information.

Air Medical Journal: Targeted to medical transport physicians, nurses, pilots, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, communication specialists, and program administrators. Contains practical how-to articles, debates on controversial industry issues, legislative updates, case studies, and peer-reviewed original research articles covering all aspects of the medical transport profession.
Applied Nursing Research: Peer-reviewed research articles for clinical applications in all nursing specialties. Regularly includes features such as "Ask the Experts," research briefs, clinical methods, book reviews, news and announcements, and an editorial section. Topics include pain management, patient education, discharge planning, nursing diagnosis, job stress in nursing, nursing influence on length of hospital stay, nurse/physician collaboration, and more.
BioMed Central: Get access to more than 140 open access journals covering all areas of biology and medicine. Most of its publications are freely available to the public, although some require a paid subscription. Included are journals on nutrition, public health, and nursing.
Critical Care Nurse: Peer-reviewed journal which publishes practical, clinically relevant manuscripts describing care of critically ill patients & their families. Provides information concerning the bedside care of critically & acutely ill patients.
Health & Biological Sciences: Electronic and print journals owned by Portland Community College. This list contains links to journals by topic. Includes: biology, medicine, microbiology, health, dental, nursing, veterinary medicine, zoology. Many of the journals listed are peer reviewed. Journal of Clinical Nursing: International, peer reviewed, scientific journal publishing resources on all aspects of nursing and midwifery practice. Coverage includes topics such as ambulatory care, community care, family care, home, hospital, practice, primary and secondary, and public health.
Journal of Community Health Nursing: Peer-reviewed journal articles on health care issues relevant to all aspects of community practice -- schools, homes, visiting nursing services, clinics, hospices, education, and public health administration.
Journal of Gerontological Nursing: Investigating all aspects of gerontological nursing with original clinical articles and the latest research. Features sections on geropsychiatry, legal issues, book reviews, and relevant clinical products.
Journal of Pediatric Nursing: The Journal of Pediatric Nursing provides original, peer-reviewed research that is based on the philosophy that pediatric nursing incorporates a family-centered approach.
Medsurg Nursing: MEDSURG Nursing supports adult health/medical-surgical nurses in patient care, private practice, and outpatient health care settings in urban, suburban, and rural locations. Features include peer-reviewed articles, comprehensive discussion, and description of today's clinical issues in adult health/medical-surgical nursing.
Nursing Ethics: Peer reviewed articles covering policy issues, debates, & controversies relating to ethical and legal questions faced by health care professionals with a practical approach to topics as they relate to professionals and the workplace.
Open Nursing Journal: Open access (free), peer-reviewed, international journal focusing on issues affecting nursing practice, research, education, and the wider health care sector.
Public Library of Science (PLoS): PLoS is an initiative by scientists and doctors to publish quality, peer-reviewed literature and make it freely available to the public and other researchers. It publishes journals in biology, medicine, clinical trials, and genetics.

Journal of Transcultural Nursing This dynamic and sometimes controversial publication offers practical information about how to deal with diverse cultures on issues that may affect nursing and health care. Resources include research articles, book reviews, and annotated bibliographies; sources for theory development, education, and clinical practice; and information to further international development.

Google Scholar Works like regular Google, but only searches scholarly articles. Can be a great way to find out what sort of articles may be available on a topic, or what type of language to use in your database searches.

NurseLinkUp: A social networking site for nurses--a great place to look for a topic for the issues paper. What are nurses currently struggling to achieve and accomplish in the workplace?
Nursing Outlook: Each issue examines current issues and trends in nursing practice, education, and research, offering progressive solutions to the problems facing the profession. PCC Library has lots of resources that you can use on your own. You may already know that about the quiet study spaces as well as study rooms you can reserve.

Citing sources is another way you can help yourself! PCC Library has all the information you need on Cite Sources. The library also has video tutorials on everything from how to develop a topic for your paper to figuring out how to incorporate those citations.
